SAFETY HARBOR, Fla. — A 62-year-old man died Wednesday night in a crash involving two cars, the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office said.
The crash happened at about 6:39 p.m. Wednesday on Phillippe Parkway near Avon Drive.
A witness told investigators a man driving a 2008 Kia Spectra was weaving on the roadway while headed southbound on Phillippe Parkway. Investigators said the Kia made a left turn into the northbound lane of the road and was hit on the passenger side by a 2001 Toyota Avalon driven by a 19-year-old man.
The sheriff’s office said the impact forced both cars off the road, where the Kia hit a utility pole.
The driver of the Toyota was taken to an area hospital for treatment. He is expected to be okay.
Investigators do not believe speed or impairment were factors in the crash.
The investigation continues.
